Employment Management Services

Employment Management Services (EMS) engages with employers looking to recruit and select excellent job candidates for their workforce. EMS works with employers twelve months a year to place students in both full-time and part-time positions. Students are encouraged to seek employment and contribute to their education costs by working at screened and approved employers. Students of all majors are eligible to apply and enroll in the EMS JBS course series. This enables a student to gain general work experience or work in areas of interest to deepen their learning and educational experience.

Examples of work experience include but are not limited to:

  • General work assignments in industries requiring high staffing volume such as retail and customer service

  • Project management

  • Marketing support

  • Communications

  • Social media

  • Healthcare, including physical, mental, and disabilities industries

  • Paralegal

  • Financial services

Successful students who enroll in the EMS JBS course series may earn up to six (6) semester credit hours towards their degree program via real-life work experience. JBS courses may be repeated for credit. A maximum of 6 credits from all JBS courses may apply toward the elective requirements of a student’s program. JBS credits in excess of 6 hours will not count toward the student’s program.

All students must have prior approval from EMS before enrolling in any JBS course. Students may enroll in one (1), two (2), or three (3) credit courses, with continuous employment at one workplace for a minimum of 45 hours within the semester for each credit enrolled in a JBS course. Academic requirements will include assignments above and beyond logged work hours. All academic credit for work experience is granted on a pass/fail basis. EMS takes student performance very seriously and will remain engaged in the student’s work performance throughout the student’s enrollment in the EMS JOBS course series.

There is a course fee assessed for all JBS courses. However, there is no tuition charged. JBS registration cannot count toward a student’s financial aid eligibility for the enrolled term. Students are advised to work with their Financial Aid counselor for further information.
